Let’s be very real and present today. The only time in space available for us to transform and that actually exists is the present. But, the everyday questions are how long can we live in the present without looking back to the past or planning ahead to the future and are we open to enjoy the present with all our might?
Sadly, for most of us, it’s really a tricky challenge to live in the moment.
“There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, believe, do and mostly live.” quote from Dalai Lama.
A great example of this idea in yoga is when we practice the pose warrior II - Virabhadrasana II (shown in the picture). This posture represents the three times in life: past, present and future. It has the power to show us where we are standing up in life. The body is standing up with legs apart and arms wide open, but we’re only facing one side. The hand behind represents the past, where maybe it feels too heavy from all that we cannot let go or maybe it feels weak or perhaps strong and confident. The hand we’re facing is the future where maybe we feel rushed to be in, or maybe it feels weak and scary.
But the most important aspect of this pose is the torso and the legs where the past and the future join their strengths to live in the most precious and powerful time that is the present moment. Here is where we can demonstrate who we really are: weak, strong, flexible, balanced or centered and more. Here is where we can lift the head up towards life and face the reality of our present moment. At this place we can be aligned by pressing our feet into the ground and finding the stability and lift that we need to overcome and enjoy everything in this moment of our life, enjoyable and amazing.
With the great wisdom of the yoga pose warrior II, we can see that the posture represents how we live life. It is up to us the attitude that we take on life. We’re responsible to live in the moment or far in the past or future. Because at the end of the day, for us to live in the present, we need to understand the balance in between these three spaces in life.
We can live strong as warriors ready to face whatever we need to live; embracing the present with the powerful conviction that it can be refreshing, joyful and fulfilling.
Wherever you’re right now in your life, practice to get grounded, strong, flexible and present as a warrior enjoying this moment that will never happen again. Release the past; living it where it belongs because it will never come back. And detached yourself from an unknown future that can only bring stress or frustration.
This is your moment! This is where we belong, and it’s perfect if you really pay close attention.
That the light in me, recognizes the light in you,
