Everybody says yoga is great, that we should try it for millions of reasons. But, we question: Why do I have to? It looks so complicated. Is it really good for me? Well, I have had so many of these questions and comments over the years, and honestly, I get it…! It might be annoying to be invited to something that we don't even understand.
Now that the new year is here, it always comes with many wishes, desires, projects, hopes and inspirations. And one of the many ways to start it is by desiring a better kind of life. And the best way to accomplish it, it’s by doing what really fulfills our heart and our life. And we know we have so many options.
Here, I want to briefly share with you the option of yoga as a lifestyle and what do you need to do to start.
First of all, let’s make it clear, as in any practice we always start from zero and of course that means that we don’t start as a yogi teacher. This practice as many others is an everyday learning practice, where today might be different than yesterday and probably than tomorrow. But I can tell you that the results over the years can be life changing. This is a practice that can walk along with our life experiences; making us want to know and learn more.
I truly believe that it takes time to understand the meaning of yoga (if we ever completely understand it). Yoga has so many options, branches, and different beliefs that it can be challenging to understand everything even in 10 or 20 years as an advanced yogi. But! The good news about yoga is that we don’t really need to understand all the “whys” of it right away. It would it be like trying to understand the whole meaning of life and the circumstances we live just when they are in front of us. Yoga teaches us that with patience, our bodies and our lives will evolve in us all the fruits and gifts needed in their correct time or moment.
We should keep in mind that sometimes we will enjoy relaxing sessions and other will be challenging, but over the constant practice we will enjoy deep changes in our bodies, in the way we perceive life, and if going even deeper: the practice will be able to change our life.
So in general what we need are:
Open mind to learn something new
Open heart to accept changes in our life
Patience that changes doesn’t happen overnight
Open to gratitude
Open for acceptance
Ready to learn the importance of our breath & body
Ready to enjoy stillness and silence
Ready to learn how yoga poses interact and can transform in different ways our bodies and emotions
Commitment to feel great
We need to be clear that every experience is different and unique. So, I invite you with all of my heart to practice yoga as part of your lifestyle. If you haven't tried jet, take the challenge to know what this practice can bring to you. I’m sure that your expectations can make the ideal journey that you need to live.
The light in me, recognizes the light in you,
